Slim, green and easy to move around, these plant stakes keep stems upright from the first bud to the last bloom. The set comes with sixteen fiberglass stakes, eight at 12 inches and eight at 18 inches, along with 16 ring clips, 8 connectors and 20 twist ties. The short stakes suit orchids, amaryllis, herbs and potted flowers on a sunny windowsill or porch, and the long ones fit cosmos, lilies, cornflowers and pepper plants in beds and raised gardens. When a plant outgrows its stake, press a connector onto the top and add a second stake for a taller support. To set one up, push the stake a few inches into the soil or potting mix, an inch or two from the stem. Snap a ring clip onto the stake just below a leaf or bud, close it around the stem with a little room to spare, and slide it higher as the plant grows. The twist ties are there for side shoots and stems that wander. The stakes are about the width of a pencil, so they suit single stems and container plants rather than full-grown tomato vines or heavy shrubs. At the end of the season, pull them up, rinse off the soil and store them flat, and they're ready to go again in spring.
